Anyone Who Has a Heart - Manchester, United Kingdom
“Anyone Who Has a Heart” is a modern lighting sculpture located at the main entrance of the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. Artists Andrew Small and Steve Almond created this interactive art piece consisting of four rings of light backlit by Traxon’s Dot XL-6 RGB, set in a large heart-like sculpture. Motion sensors initiate different illuminated colors and sequences when visitors walk around the installation and it displays the time of day in steps: One of each of the four rings displays the hour, minute, second, and millisecond, for five minutes every hour. The highlight of the piece is its ability to monitor and display peoples’ heartbeats with a red, pulsating light when visitors hold its steel hand grips. Via interface electronics, e:cue‘s Butler, Butler XT and LAS Enterprise, gather the needed information and display the heart rate through Traxon’s Dot XL-6 RGB fixtures. Traxon’s was chosen for this project due to its flexibility in working with the artists, as well as its ability to offer an ultra bright, robust, and highly flexible fixture—Dot XL-6 RGB—and intelligent control.
